Maybe this page isn’t quite as vital as one might think, but I felt it necessary. A bit more personal, a bit more whimsical, this page is just here so I don’t feel too impersonal out there.
I live in St. Louis, MO, and I am trying to make my way as an artist and educator. The educator part may come later, as I came from a school that demanded both of it’s professor’s. Art Institute instructors, visiting to tenured, had to be practicing as well as teaching. It wasn’t the ‘publish or perish’ atmosphere, more that the instructors had been invited to instruct, and receive payment for it, as long as they made time for it in their artist schedule. I don’t know if that makes sense, but the artists there weren’t professors who occasionally showed work. You could look forward exhibits of your instructor’s work somewhere (even in other sates) every year. It was thrilling.

I have 2 cats, Ruby and Bella. As a proud pet parent, I think their the greatest in the world. A close second would be my brother’s cat, Phileas. Speaking of family, Brother is a Professor of Ethics at a state university, my mother has been teaching for nigh on 100 years, and my father is retired after being (mainly) a Parole Officer, drug counsellor, and Human Resources Director.
I grew up just outside St. Louis, in O’Fallon, MO and was privately educated in Catholic schools up until college. It all went down hill from there—not really. Our little farm land had at one point 2 dogs, lots of chickens, and about a million cats (outdoor). We even hosted a Peacock later on, and still have countless feathers to prove it.
I’ve studied abroad in Paris and Florence, and long to go back. Especially Florence, There are statues of me everywhere (not entirely all that flattering, though).
The things I do in my spare time, if an artist can have such a thing, are read ‘big theory’ books, or science fiction; and watch what I can from iTunes or YouTube (I’ve abandoned traditional forms of television such as regular reception, cable and satellite). Mainly, I hunt down old and new favorite shows on iTunes, YouTube, or DVD (legally!). They, as well as music, make great background noise for studio work.
Speaking of technology stuff, I’m a big Mac guy and have been with it since system 7. The same goes for the professional grade programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and even Dreamweaver.
Legos! I almost forgot Legos! Here I am, nigh on 30 years, and I still can’t get enough of them. I am finding that I’m buying fewer and fewer models and letting my own childhood come back out amongst the 75 or so pounds of pieces.
