Squish/Splat August 2008

This is a great class concentrating on messy process and geared toward 6-8 year olds. We use blown ink, splatter paint, plaster wrap, paper machè, and even go into such techniques as monotype, modeling, texturing and collage. Basically, any media that lends itself to the onomatopoeia title of the class. This bunch is from a week long camp in august 2008.

Hip Hop August 2008

For the past 2 summers I’ve been teaching little kids the aspects of graffiti in conjunction with the Hip Hop Dance program at the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis. While following the institution’s mission of bringing together multiple disciplines, it also helps the dance instructors rest a little longer before diving into another class. This is the first year I’ve actually had a camera on me (Hurray, iPhone!), and only thought to capture these during the last week of summer camps. Below are selected t-shirts the kids developed their ‘tag’ for. The idea is, while they are all dancing as a sort of ‘uniformed troupe’, the shirts reflect the unique personality of the student as they dance in unison. This was from a class of 31, aged about 6-8. I’ve done work with smaller class sizes, as well as students 13-Adult.
